Artist's Comments

And here is another update, the backround is crummy but it's a quicky to show where my insperation came from, my mom has this highly old painting of a glow in the dark masterpiece she made when my sibs where little. It's blue horse in a neon green color and the colors both light up at night in different shades. I thought it would be cool to have it as a simple image backround.
however the REAL backround is ganna be a the great stairs in Rivendail of LOTR's movies and a large tree.Little lights and lamps maybe and a few Elfs in the backround? I'm not sure yet :D. But man I'm loving this drawing! Even if it doesint enter I kinda dont care anymore XD This can take years to finish and I will still prase it as I'm growing up.

I may make this into a print when it's finished ... But I dont know how to go about doing that X_X ug...

Anyway I hope you all enjoy the second sneek peek at pokecommunity 2005 october Artstravaganza entery.

As you can tell for the unicorn at this stage, crits are much abliged :points to the crit option: :boogie: I'm up for anythin' people And dont mind a slap in the face XD (god I feel like I'm ganna pay for this ) But my best gimp project ever. Why not! =D Only helpful crits can make me stronger. And insperation of cource :)

And btw I know my other one is still there, when the image is finished I want to combind all the comments and crits^_^.

Wow that is a very beautiful image. The detail in the unicorn's mane is exceptional. I also like the color usage. They really pop out against that black background. I honestly like this with the black background, it reminds me of a painting on black velvet.

I always find something constructive to say, soooo... I would make the image bigger and give it a higher dpi as well (although it probably will pixelate :( ), especially if you plan to make a print in the future. And it would be easier to clean up any pixelation now than when you finish.

Thanks a bunch, I havent seen you around the veiwing area, I'm glad you posted and your comments are very insperational, along with your constructive comment it really helps

:nods: ^_^ I shrunk the image so the board wouldint get mad at a huge one on pokecommunity art contest , the true size will be 2600pixels with rivendail in the backround. Thanks for the suggestion :D i'll be sure to watch for pixleation cause that always happeneds to me even if its a big image to start with. :( I hope it doesint become pixel like though, it would so ruin the image.. :Goes to check if blimping it up does much.:

And DPI? I know this sounds silly ^^; but whats that?

DPI is Dots Per Inch. It affects printing more than images shown on a computer. It doesn't affect an image on a computer monitor b/c the standard computer monitor only can show 72 dpi. However, 72 dpi looks like poo-poo printed. For a printed piece you want at least 300 dpi (this I learned from the Deviant Prints website). Just remember, more dots per inch = better looking pictures, especially when you get into huge poster sizes and stuff like that.

I completely understand the small size now. I usually scale mine down b/c at my mom's place we have dial-up and they take forever to upload, not to mention to view.

As for me not being around, I'm new. :D

This is looking so great! :handshake: I linger till the day I see this wonderful work of art completed! I love the background, but I see why you would want to change it (even though, if it was mean I wouldn't) lol.

I have to admit, the flowing head scared me a bit... the drawing was fine, but it just seemed kind of odd- I'm glad to see it finally like this.

The hair is just to die for, and I love the dark brown, gentle eyes! Most people use light eyes on dark, but I've always perfered it this way.

Yes, shout your pride! You have ever right in the world too, and this would make the best print in the world! However, sadly, I think you have to be a sucriber to do so :( but, at last, I am not sure. For I would love to see such a wonderful work of art such as this be used inside of all them glamored up ones from expensive computer programs. Bleh.

I'm still amazed at how this is on your wall (it is, right? or am I lost in confusion?) and I give you the best of luck for the contest, :shamrock: , but mind you, I don't think you will need it :)

Yeah? I'm flattered your checking my gallery out and commenting ^_^ I hope you enjoy the forum and site and I will keep a close eye on your gallery :D!
Thanks for telling me the DPI, I will print it on poster size sheets here befor using it as a print out. If it ends up messy looking I'm ganna work hard to make it really shin :Boogie: it's my favorite so far =3

Thanks Swifty ^_^ lol I'll be finished within the next few days =3 no worries you will not die with vains in your eyeballs for waiting so long  I'v even finished the bridle on it's chest and I'm starting to get it prepaired with some backround started and the lanturn my name will be in should be done o.o.
I'm starting to think of printing it on my own poster sheets befor I make it a printable version ^^; This way I will see if it is pixelized or if it's at the best resalution =D .
Thanks for the comment on the hair ^_^ I worked all day yesterday on that and it came out pretty, I ended up getting a little to much gold in the end though so I have redone it a tad so the blue pops out.

My moms painting is on a wall close to my room :) but a printed version much smaller then its true size is on my bedroom door. I hope I win the contest just for glomping rights xD but as long as people love it and feel inspired I'm allready a winner anyway and I couldint care less =3

HOLY *faints*

That is absolutely AMAZING! The detail is just incredible--it looks real! You did and excellent job with the anatomy too! Horse anatomy has always been a real pain to me xD

Ehh...advanced critique encouraged? Okay...umm...maybe you could make the mane look a little more real by adding some hair on the back. Like, instead of having it almost completely flat, maybe you could has a couple of extra hairs? *shrugs* I dunno xD;
